Dear Diner, I'm happy we got to meat, thanks for making my trip out to you a pleasant one.
I began my journey to you via the J,M train... not frequenting the south side Williamsburg often, I wasn't sure how cumbersome my journey would be. The last time I made a similar outing, was over a year ago when the club did a meat eat... and that time it was a holiday so the J,M wasn't very useful.
My trip from downtown Manhattan was fairly simple, and I got to see subway stops I had never seen before... another fan of the club made his way to you via the upper west side... not the quickest journey, but thanks to you and your cousin Marlow, he did not ride in vain.
Mamma B and I began our evening next door to partake in the oyster happy hour at Marlow & Sons. Goldie and the BurgerBabe had frequented this place before, and highly recommended a visit. The five of us (Macroburgerer from the upper west) where able to happy it up alfresco and take in the setting sun. Before 7pm, the oysters are $1.25 (use to be $1). This was a highly enjoyable way to prime ourselves for the next course.
Once the sun had set, all the oysters were slurped, drinks were drank, we made our way next door to you.
We arrived a bit before the main dinner crunch, around 7:30, and didn't have a hard time getting a table for 6 (even thought we eventually had 8 ). You greeted us with your diner car-esque interior... long bar and small booths... dark and comfortable. We were seated in your back/side room where the booths are replaced by about a dozen two tops that can be clustered for larger parties.
head bun... burger bun
Your friendly and knowledgeable wait staff took all of our burger orders, and didn't seem too bothered by our lack of interest in the daily specials. Not too long after, our plates arrived. An attractive gathering of well seasoned crispy fries and proportional cheeseburger. Nice melt, bib lettuce, tomato, thinly sliced red onion, and liberally seeded bun (I think Brioche). An impressive plate.
After a few pictures, It was time to dig in... always the fries first for me. I think it helps set the mood and primes the palate. Your burger had a tough act to follow, but faired well. A couple bites into the burger, I felt my med. rare was more gray than I prefer. But my normal reaction to send it back was halted by your burgers nutty meat taste, and had decent texture. Could have been a bit more juicy, but I enjoyed what I was eating, and didn't want to stop. The other fans who ordered med. rare had a nice color on the inside, and I was able to enjoy part of Mrs. B's properly cooked burger. Good stuff.
Overall I would come back to this part of Brooklyn again to eat at Diner. You definitely care for the food you serve, and I'd be happy to see what the daily specials are next time... can I get some fries with that?
Sincerely,
-Seeker
