Jack's Hamburger in Santa Cruz, CA serves a west coast fast food style burger. The cheeseburger has melted American cheese over a thin patty served inside a plain bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and a good slathering of special sauce. Everything is made to order and very affordable. Where this burger goes wrong is in the patty. Its a pretty bland thin piece of meat that was definitely frozen. It has good griddle flavor, but the texture is a bit chewy and the meat lacks nuance. Everything else in this burger works, the layer of green lettuce adds nice crunch, fresh tomato and thinly sliced onion work well, pickles could be less sweet but the sauce is exellent. It had good burger to bun to topping ratio so that it holds together in the hand really well. Overall its a good burger which is why I gave it a B grade.

The Fries came out hot and crispy but went bad as soon as they cooled down. They are your basic packaged frozen fries. Not the shoestring McD's style, these run between a shoestring and a steak fry. I could do with out them. Jack's is open til 4p Sun- Thurs and til 8p Fri-Sat so plan accordingly.

I eat there every so often. If your in santa cruz Try it out.
